A guy I grew up in Philly with is a doctor now. I’m sure he’s great at it. The first thing he did when he started making “doctor money” was go out and buy a 996 Cabriolet. It was his dream car. Good for him I say…but he illustrates a great diffference between “us” and “them”. The enthusiast knows the difference between a 911, a 964, a 993, a 996, and a 997. The doctor, or dentist, doesn’t know there is anything BUT a 911.
We were at the Denver Auto Show the other day, and they had a new 997 Cab there. I can’t begin to tell you how underwhelmed I was with it. If I were going to go that route, I’d *at least* go with a Targa, which, with that big panoramic sunroof, I think is kinda cool.
That said, if someone gave me a 997 Cab…I’d drive it. For a month. Then I’d sell it and get a used 993 and be very, very happy.
PCA events are filled with doctors and dentists driving GT3’s and such. They are often the slowest drivers AT these events. You want to walk up to them, shake them, and say “Dude!!! Push the pedal down!”. Instead you drive your 30+ year old car in circles around them, and hope that someday they get it.
